چکیده

This paper considers the QoS design of packet–switching networks. We propose a packet network design and planning approach that considers the dynamics of packet networks, as well as the effect of protocols at the different layers of the Internet architecture on the e2e QoS experienced by end users. Subproblems are derived from a general design problem and a collection of heuristic algorithms are introduced for computing approximate solutions. We illustrate examples of network planning/dimensioning considering Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).

Algorithms for IP network design with end-to-end QoS constraints

The new generation of packet-switching networks is expected to support a wide range of communication-intensive realtime multimedia applications. A key issue in the area is how to devise reasonable packet-switching network design methodologies that allow the choice of the most adequate set of network resources for the delivery of a given mix of services with the desired level of end-to-end Quali...

A Fuzzy Based Three Color Meter/Marker for Diffserv Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)

Differentiated Services (Diffserv) which was proposed by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), is a scalable and robust model for providing the end-to-end QoS. In the Diffserv networks, metering mechanisms are used to measure traffic stream. The single rate Three Color Meter (srTCM) [1],which was proposed by IETF,‏ meters an IP packet stream and marks its packets either green, yellow, or red....

An analytical QoS service model for delay-based differentiation

The increased need for Quality of Service (QoS) in today’s IP networks has concentrated a lot of research and implementation efforts. Carefully designed and managed priority services are essential for quality-demanding traffic, especially in large-scale IP-based environments where aggregation of flows is extensive and a variety of traffic types co-exist. Although individual mechanisms have been...

Improving Quality of Service Routing in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks Using OLSR

Mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) are constructed by mobile nodes without access point. Since MANET has certain constraints, including power shortages, an unstable wireless environment and node mobility, more power-efficient and reliable routing protocols are needed. The OLSR protocol is an optimization of the classical link state algorithm. OLSR introduces an interesting concept, the multipoint r...

Topological Design of Survivable IP Networks Using Metaheuristic Approaches

The topological design of distributed packet switched networks consists of finding a topology that minimizes the communication costs by taking into account a certain number of constraints such as the end-to-end quality of service (e2e QoS) and the reliability. Our approach is based on the exploration of the solution space using metaheuristic algorithms (GA and TS), where candidate solutions are...
